Last month I decided to stop playing FIFA, I didn’t have a ceremony or anything, but I figured that I might as well wait for the FC to come out. Seeing the logo all over every Premiere League game and watching all of these videos on Youtube and seeing people talk about it on Instagram gave me the impression I was wasting my time with FIFA. And then I got an email saying I could play a BETA version of EA FC 24!!
I was so excited when I got the email saying I could play the beta and thought I was so special. The 430 hours played had payed off, but no it’s because I bought it already on pre-order. Well the bubble hadn’t been burst when I downloaded it, and I spent the next month playing it. Here is my review, if you could call it that.
Positive stuff first, trying to be glass half full type of person now. Very slick graphics. Huge improvement on the prior version. Fantastic design and the cinematics before a game are a major improvement on the previous version. Manager Mode is the biggest upgrade for me. A lot of the people obsessed with soccer/football talk about the game Football Manager, see previous post on what I think about the game. Manager mode could give this game a run for its money if we can compete against other managers online. It’s probably my favorite upgrade. And honestly you have to be on the sidelines, don’t play the games. Stand on the sidelines and watch the tactics play out, it’s really enjoyable. Another nice addition is hearing the local language when doing a press conference. Training sessions have also been updated, and are harder. Players have more options in terms of traits and what not. Game wise still the same old as the last version and that brings me to the major con of the game.
Now I hope it’s because it’s a beta version of the game, but most of the game is the same. Creating a player, or a Manager, all of the options are the same. Creating a stadium as well. I know most people don’t really care about these aspects of the game, but this was a chance to wipe the slate clean. It’s so rare for a game to be able to reinvent itself, and it’s not possible for a legacy game like Madden or NBA2k to do that, so I was hoping EA really went all out and made us feel like we were part of a the club we choose to play as, or create. That seems unreasonable, but at the same time you can’t keep doing the same thing over and over again without people getting bored. In all the reveals and play throughs they are showing off Hypermotion and a couple of other things that I really don’t care about.
Look I already bought the game. I’m going to play probably 500 hours on the thing, but doesn’t mean I can’t be critical. I will say instead of getting beat by the entire Argentina team I can get beat by Inter Miami, so it’s still frustrating. I’m sorry there is no way that an MLS team can beat a team that plays in Europe, or South America. I’ll revisit all this when I get the actual version in a few days, but I’m slightly worried. So we will see.
In other news, sleeping better at the expense of gaming. Liverpool are winning so that helps. My personal life is filled with depression and anxiety. My wife has told me to stop drinking coffee, but she doesn’t understand that without coffee I would be worse. As always good night and good luck.
